The Hope of Africa

I came across a short but worthwhile video of the South African 2012 national March for Life . Very moving image of South African pro-lifers braving the worst of weathers in order to publicly decry the heart-breaking Abortion Act (signed into law in 1997) in their country which allows for thousands of innocent babies to be killed in the womb every year. More than 1 million babies have now been aborted since this law was signed. Sad but true. Watching the video and seeing the horrendous heavy rain that must have made the March excruciatingly more difficult , I couldn’t help but shed tears of realisation that indeed the weather tells the sad story of the innocent lives legally snuffed out in SA, and the countless women hurt and the many many families wounded by the lie of “legal” abortion .
I have already written a short piece (which you are welcome to read) on the “Tears from South Africa“.

So today , I decided to take a broader view by reflecting on the status of abortion laws across Africa given that the wealthy pro-abortion cartel (like International Planned Parenthood Federation , Marie Stopes International , DKT international , iPas e.t.c.) are hovering over our Continent (like vultures) with their implicit and sometimes explicit goal being to bring the rest of us in step with South Africa .
People of good will , all I ask you to do is to think about the toxic effects of legal abortion in South Africa. Think about the escalating numbers of rape cases in that part of Africa (probably the highest in the world). Think about the growing casual-sex culture there. Think about the constant persecution of the bold and brave people who raise their voices in defence of these unborn babies.Think about the violence unleashed in this African nation that has sanctioned (by law) the killing of their most defenceless ones.
Think about these , and raise your voices with us to resist any more laws to sanction abortion in any part of Africa. Let us not be afraid to point out and reject the works of the Abortion “cartel” strategically situated in most of the State Capitals of the African nations under the guise of “family planning”. Yes , from Abuja to Accra to Abidjan , they are there wearing the cloak of well intentioned birth-control experts.
So that we will know where the individual African nations stand , here is a thumbnail sketch of Abortion Laws in Africa .

BLUE zone
 Abortion is Legal on Demand.
This is the case in South Africa ,Tunisia and Guinea-Bissau
 GREEN zone
Abortion is Legal for socioeconomic factors, and/or foetal defects, rape, maternal life, health and mental health.

This is the case in Zambia
 YELLOW zone
Abortion is Legal for cases of foetal defects, rape, maternal life, health and mental health.
This is the case in Ghana , Liberia, Burkina Faso, Namibia , Botswana and Zimbabwe
 BROWN zone
Abortion is Illegal with exception for rape, maternal life, health, and/or mental health.
This is the case in Cameroon

ORANGE zone
Abortion is illegal with exception for maternal life (and in a few countries ,like Kenya, mother’s health).
This is the case in the remaining 42 Countries of Africa.
Yes , 80% of African countries have laws that protect their unborn children . But with every passing year, the abortion-minded wealthy organisations continue to push, prod, pressurise our leaders to turn ALL of Africa into one big BLUE zone.
I have already had someone say to me that on this note – “it does not make any difference (that abortion is illegal in most parts of Africa), since they are not enforced in Africa…” In other words there are still people who are able to  clandestinely procure abortions in Africa.
My response to this is that as long as the pro-life laws are in place , abortion is acknowledged as the brutal killing of smaller defenceless human beings and there is always the hope that a just leader, a well-informed minister or secretary of health, a good governor , can arise in any given country to enforce the law because it is still the “law” to protect the unborn.
For there is nothing as dark and painful as an Executive “nod” given to the killing of the innocent (anyone who lives in the USA as well as most parts of Europe will know what I mean) . What we see in these “modern” societies with legal abortion is a collective denial of human life in the womb , we see a pat on the back for brutal abortionists , we see government grants given to abortion providers and in some places these days we see a targeted attack on pro-life organisations.
NO, it is definitely not the same because the red line is always the law to protect tender life in the womb, once that is gone, then we have no hope.
So I rest this case with a most beautiful quote from Pope John Paul II that succinctly captures and exposes the reality of legal abortion…
“a nation that kills its own children is a nation without hope “
