South African Cardinal rejects condom distribution in schools

As HIV is ravaging so many young people in South Africa , the response of the Educational Board has been to provide an increased access to condoms for secondary school kids instead of approaching the root cause of the problem of increasing pre-marital sexual activity among the youth . And so on this note , the Catholic Archbishop of Durban Cardinal Wilfrid Napier (yes , the same Cardinal that gave Pope Francis the much-talked-about yellow wrist band after his election) , has valiantly upheld the Church’s teachings on human dignity and sexuality in a fast changing global culture that is constantly lowering moral standards to a new all time low where secondary school students are no longer encouraged or even expected to aspire for chastity. So as the Educational Board rolls out their condom distribution plan that will affect millions of young school children, Cardinal Napier has explicitly said that there will be no condom distribution within the Catholic Schools . Thank God ! He explained his Catholic stance and the more wholistic approach that should be used in an interview with the South African weekly – the Sunday Times.
These were some of the Cardinal’s words :

“I cannot understand how you introduce condoms to children of that age when legally they are not supposed to be engaging in sexual activity.Once something is distributed by people in authority, children take it as an okay. I cannot understand the lack of insight into the psychological damage that is being done to the younger generation.”
